Biography
Joey was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. As a
young boy, his earliest artistic influences were drawn from the popular culture
around him. He spent many hours copying the characters from comic books, television
cartoons, comic strips, and Disney films.
Joey studied art in high school, but switched to film and theatre while he attended
San Jose State University. After receiving his B.A. degree, he worked in professional
theatre and stand-up comedy for a few years before returning to the visual arts.
He worked in printing and studied art at De Anza College.
In addition to painting, Joey has worked as a graphic designer, a fine art framer
and an art sales consultant. He now lives and works in Totnes, Devon.
Much of Joey's art pays homage to his early influences, yet benefit from the
maturity of his education and his experience as a designer and framer.
